Resort experience
The small town of Makarska and the resort villages next to it nestle together along the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Central Dalmatia. A lot of tourists come here, but there is no crowding, as in Italy or Spain.
There are no large resorts, hypermarkets and busy highways on the Makarska Riviera. Tourists are delighted with the silence, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful landscapes, the purest mountain air and the smell of pine trees. The sun sets directly into the sea, so stunning sunsets can be seen from all beaches.
But the main highlight of the resort is the clear sea:
gilinale: "I have never seen the sea as clean as here - neither in Greece, nor in France, nor in Portugal. There is no seaweed, no jellyfish, no garbage brought from the open sea. The thing is that the city is located on the shores of two deep bays, and from the side of the Adriatic Sea, it is protected by two large islands Brač and Hvar. "

Beaches in Makarska
Cape St. Peter divides the Makarska coast into two bays. To the east, to Cape Oseyava, stretch the port and yacht berths. In the west, there are beach resorts. A dense pine forest grows along the coast, and the islands of Brac and Hvar protect the coast from large waves.
Makarska is loved for its greenish-emerald sea and good pebble beaches. They are rather narrow and long. Some of the beaches of the Croatian resort have been awarded the honorary Blue Flag for their cleanliness and excellent infrastructure.
The nudist beaches of Makarska are well known. The most popular is the Nugal beach, located under a large beautiful rock, near the village of Tucepi.
Keep in mind that there are sea urchins in the rocks near the coast. To protect your feet from thorns, swim in aquashusas!
Elena: "Very clean, well-groomed beaches. On the beaches there are showers, cabins, pine trees. So there is where to stay in the shade. Vacationers mostly on their own bedding, but there are sun loungers and umbrellas everywhere. Entertainment on the beach is ordinary, nothing extreme. The shore is pebbled, you can do without special slippers. "
What to see
History lovers are attracted by the small town of Makarska, which stands in a quiet bay surrounded by green mountains. The seaside resort is famous for its beautiful Dalmatian architecture. Admire the medieval Franciscan monastery, ancient Roman tombstones, the churches of St. Mark and St. Peter! Fans of outdoor activities are happy to go on boat trips to the islands of Brac and Hvar, as well as travel to the alpine park Biokovo.
NadiaDamian: "Nature Park Biokovo is a must-see point in Croatia, the most valuable and beautiful after Plitvice Lakes. A real hike in the mountains! You will discover unearthly beauty. In clear weather you will see not only the golden sea, but also Italy."
investigator64: "Park šuma Osejava is a great place for walking and relaxation. The park is riddled with many small and large paths that will give maximum relaxation to hikers. The part of the peninsula facing the sea is a paradise for climbers on steep cliffs."
Vacation with children
Rest in the resorts of Makarska with children has many advantages - warm sea, mild climate, pine and mixed forests. There are few mosquitoes in Central Dalmatia in summer. The main disadvantages are few sandy beaches and mountainous terrain. It is difficult to go down to the sea with strollers!
With older children, it is convenient to relax in the city of Makarska itself. We recommend choosing a quieter place with babies. According to tourists' reviews, the resort villages of Promaina and Tucepi are also good for families. In addition to swimming in the sea, go with your child to the mountains and visit the local observatory!
juliamirzina: "Makarska Observatory - both children and adults were impressed. They saw Jupiter, Saturn, the bewitching Moon and two stars through a telescope."
When is the best time to go
Makarska is a typical seaside resort in Croatia. Tourists come here during the warm season. The swimming season lasts from May to October, and most of the tourists are in the summer.
Parents with young children and older travelers usually choose June or September for their holidays, when there are fewer people at the resort. If you love the warm sea, are not afraid of the heat and crowds of tourists, plan a vacation in Makarska in July and August!
Evgeniya: “I liked everything in September. The weather was pleasing, however, the sea was cool. I don’t know, maybe it’s not always very warm.”
