Do you want to live in a palace and pay as for an ordinary guest house? Come for a few days to Sicily, namely to Catania. Here you will find the charming B&B Il Caravaggio - rooms in an old building, five-meter ceilings, antique furniture, beautiful sanitary ware, bas-reliefs, paintings and many other elements of Baroque decor.
During my Sicilian holidays, I happened to live in a unique guest house. I shared photos of its stunning interiors on my blog. In response, there is a violent reaction from subscribers: people are delighted and ask for passwords. I share information!
Hotel Description
This work of art is called Il Caravaggio.
Housing type: B&B (bed and breakfast) is the most popular budget accommodation option in Sicily. It is a large apartment, communal in our understanding, usually with 4-5 rooms. There are rooms with their own bathroom inside, there are rooms with a common one in the corridor, and there are rooms with their own, but also in the corridor. I had the last option.
The cost: from 40 euros per room for one person, from 70 euros - for two. I checked it on Booking - the prices are the same in any season.
Is breakfast included... A simple classic Italian breakfast is served: sweets, juice, yogurt, fruits, coffee.
Estimation on Booking: 7.5 (I'm surprised the score is not 8-9).
Rooms... The guest house offers four rooms. I lived in number 3 - it is very beautiful. The rest are also good, except for a double room with 2 separate beds and a private bathroom - it is the simplest from the point of view of the interior, but it has its own bathroom and kitchenette.
Pros
- Luxurious interiors, many details that can be looked at for hours, antiques, paintings - a paradise for an esthete! Living in such a hotel is like living in a museum.
- Good internet.
- Nice staff.
- There is parking at the house.
- There is a supermarket nearby.
- They give out a robe and shampoo with an amazing scent.
- Private balcony.
- The water pressure is good, there are no problems with hot water.
Minuses
I will list the points on which people criticize this hotel in reviews. I myself consider these claims strained.
- It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the center of Catania. For some, this is a minus, but I don’t consider it as such: a walk outside the historic center is also worth it.
- Toilet rooms and showers are small and cramped. What to do, an old building!
- A modest breakfast, but this is Italy, not Turkey with a buffet - that's how it is supposed to be for breakfast here.
- Low light. In my opinion, this is even a plus - the right atmosphere is created, as if candles are burning.
Caveats from me personally:
- There is an air conditioner, but it accelerates slowly - turn it on in advance. But it works silently.
- Damn Sicilian mosquitoes keep you awake! Take a fumigator with you.
