Yvoire Castle (Chateau d'Yvoire)
Initially, the village of Yvoire was a fishing port, but since 1306, when the castle of Ivaura was built, the village acquired the status of a fortified town, which played a major military role. The castle rises above Lake Geneva and offers a magnificent view from there. However, the castle of Yvoire was partially destroyed in the 16th century and only a small part of it has survived to this day. The castle is closed to tourists. In 1943, the Geneva Gate and Thonon Gate were listed as Historic Monuments.
Lake Geneva
What to see in Yvoire from natural landscapes? And of course, we cannot but tell about the most important pearl of the Haute-Savoie department about Lake Geneva, on the banks of which is located the most beautiful village in France - Yvoire. Moreover, as you know, the Geneva Zero has the shape of a crescent and bends in the area of the village of Yvoire. It is this bend that divides the lake into Big and Small.
It is known that Lake Geneva is the largest lake in the Alps and the second largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. The water in the lake is mirror-clear and every bush, every tree, every flower growing on the shores of Lake Geneva is reflected in it. Despite the fact that the water in the lake is clean, it warms up only in mid-July. So most tourists do not come to swim in the lake, but to breathe in the clean mountain air and enjoy the beauty of the lake itself.
In addition to enjoying Lake Geneva, we advise you to visit famous resorts such as Montreux - more suitable for older people and Lausanne - for young people. And of course, do not forget to taste traditional dishes and drink truly divine wines, for tourists who do not know how to choose wine with meat or other delicious food, we advise you to read our article on the choice of wine.
