How to snowboard? This question for me was very serious and acute about 10 years ago, when I just got on the board and tried to drive, but nothing worked out for me, the sensations from the first trip were not unambiguous - I wanted to drop everything and leave, but it just so happened, that I was born on the shores of Lake Baikal, where one of the most famous ski resorts in Siberia, Mount Sobolinaya, is located.

So how do you learn how to snowboard? Let me tell you in this article how I managed to get on the board on my own, and then you decide whether to follow my recommendations or hire an instructor, for whom you will have to pay a lot of money. At the end of the article, be sure to watch a video lesson in snowboarding and what the first steps should be. And remember - as soon as we got up on the board for the first time - we put on the helmet!

Where to start and how to snowboard for the first time?

I hope you have already chosen a suitable snowboard option for yourself, if not, then here is an article for you on choosing the right board. When I first came to the mountain, I didn’t know if I would like to ride a snowboard, should I give a lot of money for a purchase, what if nothing happened? Therefore, for the first time, I recommend that you rent a board from friends or rent it at a ski resort in your city.

Once you have climbed a small or gentle slope, from which you certainly are not afraid to move, then the job is almost done. Then we put aside the equipment and other equipment and start doing exercises, and we do the exercises conscientiously, pay special attention to the hands and knees.

Only when you get up for the first time will you know if you need it. From the first skating, everything will become clear whether you fall in love with this sport or not. To begin with, I recommend that you stand on the slopes where both freeriders and beginners are taught to ride with an instructor, here you can see the key points and basics of snowboarding. Then get up on the board and be closer to such people, catch all the movements that the instructors show them, having learned all the basics, you will be able to feel more confident on the board.

Confidence should appear when you are not afraid of going down the mountain, thinking that your legs are "on a leash." Only when you can overcome fear, then you will stop falling on every meter of descent from the mountain. Let's move on to the technical foundations of learning how to snowboard.

How can a beginner learn to ride and what technique should be taken as a basis?

To begin with, you need to position the boot bindings on the board as you need it. Not every athlete will fit a standard stance where the front leg is at a 40-degree angle and the other at a 90-degree angle, as shown in the figure below.

Here you should, without any bindings, stand on the board and put your feet as it seems more convenient to you, only then we install the bindings at the desired angle. During the first three months of skiing, I recommend taking a backpack with you, where you will always have a Phillips screwdriver, and the backpack will always make it easier to fall on your back.

In fact, I never peeked at the instructors or watched experienced people teach beginners to snowboard, I took the board and tried to work my torso in order to understand how you can control the board so that it goes in the right direction. In the first moments of learning the turns on the board, I began to hone the herringbone riding, this technique will help you stand more confidently on the back edges.

With this technique of snowboarding, the main thing is not to stand on the toe edge, always keep on your heels. As soon as the herringbone began to work out, we try to turn the torso while helping with our legs, make a calm turn and begin to hone the technique of snaking on the front edges, smoothly moving to the heel edge, and so on until you go down the mountain.

It took me 5 days to learn how to snowboard. Many people do not get it right away, many grasp it on the fly. The most important thing is perseverance and work on yourself, only then you can achieve a result. Get up and try, try to do what your body tells you to do. Well, to consolidate the material on how to snowboard, watch the video lesson.

As for the second stage of learning, I refer to it as climbing the slopes with the help of lifts, there is nothing to learn here - the more you try, the faster you will learn. I'll tell you a secret, even with 10 years of experience, I still don't like drag lifts, I don't know why, but I only prefer seated lifts.

What is the best way to snowboard? What kind of clothes will fit?

Here you do not need to boggle your head with a huge amount of information about materials, manufacturers, etc.

  • When buying a jumpsuit or its individual parts (jacket or pants), take into account the color, on the slope you should be noticeable, in no case take white and black colors.
  • Clothes should protect you well from the wind, snow getting inside and should not have wet material.
  • Clothes should allow you to move easily, no constraints
  • You can also pay attention to the temperature that the material of your overalls allows you to hold, such information is provided on the nameplate of the clothes, I recommend that you take a closer look at those who do not tolerate the cold.
  • I advise you to take down jackets, such clothes weigh lighter, but if you like to ride at large temperature and humidity changes, then we look towards the synthetic insulation of clothes, it will not allow the jacket to get wet

Learning to snowboard is very easy, of course the text will not teach you and will not convey all my recommendations, so we go to the ski slopes of the resorts of your city, get on the board, try and then you yourself will understand how to snowboard. All excellent trails and snowy winters. We leave criticism, advice, wishes or just comments after the article, for beginners advice from experienced ones will also come in handy.
