Cyprus in May? Of course yes! What could be better than an inexpensive tour and a sparing sun in a country that "bites" and burns in summer?
In general, we have been-seen-we will tell. We decided to relax in Cyprus in May spontaneously and booked a ticket (to Protaras) just a couple of weeks before departure. A tour for two for 7 days in a four on half board cost 65 thousand rubles.

Do I need a visa to Cyprus?
Previously, Russians only needed a pro-visa (online and free) to enter Cyprus. But now in 2021, with the opening of the borders, the rules have changed. Please note that:
- You still need a pro-visa if you fly from Russia without transfers in third countries. It is issued free of charge through the website mfa.gov.cy and sent to the mail. Such a simplified visa allows you to stay on the island for no more than 90 days. You can also enter the current multi-Schengen area.
- 72 hours before departure, you must pass the PCR test and get the result in English (this is done, for example, in the Hemotest laboratory). Children under 12 years of age are exempt from tests.
- Registering a Cyprus Flight Pass 24 hours in advance is a control system for arriving foreigners. Upload the test result there.
- Upon arrival in Cyprus at the airport to pass another PCR test - at your own expense, the cost is in the region of 30–32 euros per person (both cash and cards are accepted). Then wait for the results at the hotel. They promise that it will take no more than 3 hours in time, but there can always be delays.
Since May 10, 2021, Cyprus has allowed entry without tests and quarantines to those Russians who have pricked themselves with Sputnik. All they have to do is upload a copy of the confirmation document in English on the Cyprus Flight Pass 24 hours before departure and issue an electronic visa - and welcome to the island.
Is it possible to go to Cyprus now?
You can enter Cyprus - the country has officially allowed Russians to enter.
But Russia is in no hurry to restore air traffic. Nevertheless, there are direct flights from Moscow and other cities: both regular and charter, but they are called "passenger-and-freight", although they deliver a full board of tourists to the island. The "small" minus is that such flights can be canceled at any time - after all, they are semi-official. But according to reviews, people have been flying and vacationing in Cyprus since April, and no one was threatened with cancellation.
- Regular flights are operated by Aeroflot, S7 and Ural Airlines - tickets are sold on Aviasales.
- Charters, and therefore tours, are now available only from one Biblio Globus. In addition, not all hotels in Cyprus accept tourists, but the aggregators Travelata and Level.Travel collect all the open ones that the tour operator works with.
Beach holidays in Cyprus - weather in May
Each Mediterranean country tells about its sunny days, of which there are more than three hundred a year - a kind of typical "trick". I do not presume to speak about all the months, but the weather in Cyprus in May is good. The season for walking here starts in April, and for swimming ... In theory - in June, in practice - people dive in the spring, on the May holidays.
Temperature of water and air in Cyprus
During the day, the island warms up to + 27 ° C and more, it feels hot, but still bearable. In the evening, the degrees drop to +23. Resorts in Cyprus differ slightly in terms of performance: the maximum warmly will be in Protaras and Ayia Napa, but in Paphos the air temperature is 2-3 degrees lower.
Year after year is not necessary, and the May weather can fail - slight precipitation and clouds occur. For evening walks, it will be useful to put something warmer than a swimsuit in your suitcase.
Can I swim? You can, already at the beginning of May the sea temperature is above + 20 ° C. Our compatriots, especially from the northern regions, boldly storm the waves. But it is more comfortable towards the end of the month, when the water warms up to + 23 ° C.

Cyprus for May holidays
In short, everything is complicated. Cyprus for the May holidays in 2021 costs from 55,000 rubles per week for two. That is, even the most "lousy" hotels (and similar ones are waiting for the indicated amount) soar by 10-15 thousand rubles compared to the prices for tours in mid-May. It's a shame, but these are the peak dates, and early booking will not save you.
Cyprus resorts - where is the best place to relax in May?
Cyprus, although it seems small, has a length of 240 km. This and the mountainous terrain determine its weather. The water temperature in the north of the island will only warm up in mid-May, but the air temperature will not vary greatly.
Where is the best place to relax in Cyprus in May? Let's start with the already mentioned Protaras and Ayia Napa. These areas are distinguished by their long sandy coastline. Cyprus is very rocky, you will see this by walking along the promenade, so comfortable beaches are in the price here.
PROTARAS
Resort number 1 for families with children. Fig Tree Bay is, in my opinion, a must-see. White sand, turquoise clear water and, in fact, fig palms. In summer, the promenade stretching along the coast is packed with people walking - Protaras is very popular.
The city itself is small and calm. There are many taverns for every taste, several attractions and areas for kids. For € 23 you can watch the dancing fountain show. In my opinion, it is too publicized. A dinner ticket costs € 38, but food can also be ordered on site.
AYIA NAPA
For bright night parties. There are plenty of bars, clubs and other activities here. We visited Senior Frog's twice (Protaras and Ayia Napa are located nearby) - a great place, not crowded even at the end of the season.
Top beaches are Nissi Beach and Landa Beach. You can rent bicycles and go to Cape Cavo Greco, about 8 km from the city. In May it will be possible to get there in this way, in June the sun is hot, and you should take bus # 101 for € 1.5 or a rented car.
LARNACA
People come here for a budget vacation. The town is calm, pensioners and families with children are resting. The sand on the beach is gray. Typical resort life with cafes, walks and shops, but there is also something to see. The main point of attraction for young people is diving. Another advantage of the city, in addition to the prices for vacations, is its location. The airport is only 25 km away.
LIMASSOL
One of the largest cities in Cyprus. Beaches, shopping, food, wine, nightlife, kids' entertainment, sightseeing - everything is there. The sand on the beach is volcanic gray, in some places there are uncritical pebbles. The beach with the eucalyptus grove of Dasoudi is a favorite among tourists.
PATHOS
Less tourists, more history? Are you flying to Cyprus at the end of May? Consider Paphos. An area with rocky shores and a bunch of attractions, interesting locations from the ancient era. The season in Paphos flares up a little later, just in June. It is better to go here in May for tourist and educational purposes. If you are flying to Larnaca, be prepared for a long transfer across the island.
Where is it warmer in Cyprus in May? Choose Ayia Napa and what's nearby. By the way, Protaras is a 20-minute drive from the party town, but the prices for vacations are lower here. The clubs are easy to get to by bus for € 3.

Tour price: from 80,000 rubles (breakfast) - 3 * Anesis - reliable treshka, in the city center, but not noisy. 10 minutes to the beach, 10 minutes to the amusement park. Adequate value even in season, good reviews. Tourists celebrate the updated rooms and normal food. Of the minuses - there is absolutely no entertainment for children.

PROTARAS
- 4 * Tui Fun And Sun Anastasia Beach - the hotel where we rested. Located on the first line, but as such there is no beach, only a small sandy area, entry into the sea is convenient. Sunbathed on the territory (pool and green lawn with sun loungers). Nearby there is a shop, bicycle rental and a bus stop. You can walk along the coast to Phoenix Beach (15 minutes), or to Fig Tree Bay (the best beach in Protaras, about 25 minutes walk).
Tour price: from 75,000 rubles (breakfast and dinner) - 3 * Mandalena Hotel Apartments is a basic hotel apartment. Very good if you need to travel sparingly: cook at home (a supermarket is 20 minutes away), rent a car and watch all the beauties of Cyprus. Walk 25 minutes to the beach.

LIMASSOL
- Blue Crane Apts are super budget apartments, shabby but in a prime location. Near shops, the sea is across the road. The beach is excellent, with white sand and a gentle entrance.
Tour price: from 45,000 rubles (without meals) - 4 * Atlantica Miramare Beach - first line, free sun loungers. The beach is not the best, there are two swimming pools, a park nearby and animation for children.

PAPHOS and LARNACA
- 3 * Flamingo Beach Hotel - located in Larnaca itself (there is still a tourist zone, "wilderness"), a nice treshka without frills. Mackenzie Beach, good for the city, is nearby.
Tour price: from 50,000 rubles (breakfast) - 4 * Tsokkos Ascos Coral Beach Hotel - a hotel in Paphos, the only negative is the rocky entrance to the water, it will take 10 minutes to walk to the sandy Coralia Beach. Otherwise, everything is on the level, the Tsokkos chain is responsible for the quality.

Cyprus Attractions - What to Do in May?
In case the weather lets you down on some of the days, prepare a plan "B" for yourself. Cyprus in May is the best time for leisurely tourist outings. I advise you to do them yourself. Tour operators tend to overcharge excursions and everything goes on the run. If you have the right - take the car, you will not regret it. RentalCars have great deals. The service scans dozens of offers and offers the best. A small car can be taken from 3000 rubles per day, gasoline will also be added to this amount, from € 1.15 per liter, insurance and a deposit.
What to do in Cyprus in May? One of the options is a boat trip. The cheapest in Protaras - € 10. The glass bottom boat travels to Cavo Greco and then along the coast to the ghost town of Famagusta. You can see it only with binoculars.
Go to Nicosia. The most attractive part of it is the atmospheric old town. By the way, this is the capital of the state. From Larnaca you can get here by plane or by bus for 5 euros.
Don't miss Paphos. If you didn't know, Aphrodite was born here. They like to hold cozy wedding ceremonies on the coast of the bay. Also Cyprus is famous for its Orthodox heritage. The sun in Cyprus in May did not offend anyone. Therefore, a tan is definitely guaranteed for you. Despite the disagreements regarding the water temperature, the tourists were satisfied with the rest, including with children.
